The Doctor is a Time Lord from Gallifrey. Sarah Jane Smith traveled with the Third and Fourth incarnations of the character.
Biography
The Doctor is a Time Lord and was raised on Gallifrey. Sarah Jane Smith traveled with the Doctor when he was in his Third and Fourth incarnations.
Early Life
Not much about the Doctor's early life is known. Until her 13th incarnation, the Doctor was under the impression that they were born on Gallifrey. However, the Doctor's long-time enemy the Master now claims the Doctor was born on another mystery world and adopted by future Time Lord Tecteun. He went on to inform her that she was the first Gallifreyan to have the power to regenerate and went on to become the first Time Lord. According to the Master, the Doctor was then made to forget their past and forced back into becoming a child when the Doctor began their life again.
After Leaving Gallifrey
After steeling a TARDIS, the Doctor left Gallifrey with his granddaughter Susan. They then traveled to 1963 Earth where they met Barbara and Ian whom they traveled with for a period of time.
Traveling with Sarah Jane Smith
The Doctor met Sarah Jane Smith while in his Third incarnation. They traveled together until the Doctor dropped her back on Earth. They later met again while the Doctor was in his Tenth incarnation. They continued to meet throughout his Tenth and Eleventh incarnations although Sarah Jane never re-joined the Doctor on his travels permanently.

The Doctor's personality varies, usually changing when he regenerates.
